The effect of microbial inoculants on yield performance of sorghum as intercrop in maize under rainfed conditions in Northern Karnataka on a clay loam soil was studied with various treatment combinations including cropping systems and seed priming treatments during kharif,2007. Among priming treatments, bio-priming (15.28 ?g TPF g soil-1 day-1) and combination of all priming methods (15.16 ?g TPF g soil-1 day-1) recorded significantly higher dehydrogenase activity than farmers practice (13.88 ?g TPF g soil-1 day-1). Similar results were obtained in urease and phosphatase activity and also percent root colonization of VAM fungi. Yield of sorghum in sole cropping (32.94 q ha-1) was higher than in intercropping (19.39 q ha-1). Among the priming treatments, bio-priming (29.48 q ha-1) and combination of all priming methods (29.59 q ha-1) were superior to farmers practice (24.96 q ha-1).

A field experiment was conducted during rainy-cum-winter seasons of 2013-14 and 2014-15 to study the effect of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients on grain quality, nutrient contents and uptake of pigeonpea var. ICPL-87. Farmyard manure (FYM) @ 10 t ha-1 recorded highest grain protein (22.12%), protein yield (261.6 kg ha-1), NPKS contents and their uptake. This was followed by vermicompost and then poultry manure each @ 5 t ha-1. FYM producing 68.97 q ha-1 total biomass (grain + straw) took up the maximum nutrients (92.12 kg N, 15.96 kg P, 74.70 kg K and 14.47 kg S ha-1). In case of inorganic sources, 100% RDF (N P K ) recorded maximum grain protein (21.59%) 20 60 20 and protein yield (241.3 kg ha-1). This 100% NPK level producing 60.10 q ha-1 total biomass resulted in highest percentage of NPKS contents as well as their uptake per hectare. The treatment interactions were found to be almost non-significant.

During the study of morphotaxonomy of Genus Navicula from Sonvad project dam and Devbhane dam of Dhule district of Maharashtra the author collected 17 taxa of Navicula is recorded for the first time from this area. In present study algal samples were collected from three stations of Sonvad project dam and Devbhane dam and preserved in 4% formalin for taxonomic study. Line drawing of genus Navicula were made by Camera Lucida. Algal taxa were identified with the help of standard monograph and recent literature. The present work enrich our knowledge of algal flora of this state.

Chhattisgarh state is popularly known as rice bowl of Indian union and shared more than 4% total geographical area of the country. Agriculture is an important economic sector in the state, crop diversification is one of the several pathways of agriculture development. Chhattisgarh has congenial agro-climatic environment cultivating variety of crops but adverse nature and market condition may ruin the farmers form economy adapting specialized farming. Thus there is a need to diversify existing farming system. Keeping the above points in mind the present study is an attempt to study the extent of crop diversification and agricultural development in Chhattisgarh covering more than one and half decade periods. The pace and pattern of agricultural development in Chhattisgarh noted increase in paddy production while wheat and gram increased marginally in area and production but maize declined in production and yield. Among crop groups production of total cereals increased and total pulses was declined considerably. The maximum and minimum variability was observed in area of paddy and total cereals. Gram has noted highest growth rate and production in negative significant was observed in production and yield of maize and total pulses. Share change and overall growth rate of primary sector in the net state domestic product of Chhattisgarh at factor cost by industry of origin at current prices declined by 7.79% and 1.96% respectively. Rice appeared to be buffer crop which meet the weather stringencies on other kharif crops and in rabi crops only gram-mustard and mustard-linseed combination minimized risk the remaining crop combination in both season were positively correlated as well value of Herfindahl index was less than unity indicating bleak possibility of crop diversification. Thus, the crop productivity in the state can be increased by adopting measures of strengthening production factors, adoption and diffusion of technologies appropriate for the study area, integration of production, processing and marketing which is the core of the strategy would provide the needed incentive for the producer to adopt the modern production methods and thereby increase the production.

A field experiment was conducted during summer seasons of 2012 on medium black clayey soil at Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh (Gujarat) to study the effect of different fertilizer treatments on growth, yield attributes and yield and quality analysis of summer castor. Results revealed that fertilizing the crop with 100 kg N ha-1, 50 kg P O ha-1 along with 20 kg S ha-1resulted in significantly higher growth attributes, yield attributes, yield, 2 5 quality parameters, and net returns, and was found at par with 75 kg N ha-1, 25 kg P O ha-1 along with 0 kg S ha-1 in the 2 5 medium black calcareous soil of South Saurashtra Agro climatic region.

The experiments were carried out to test the aqueous extracts of twenty plants for their antifungal activity against Aspergillus oryzae caused rice discolouration. Tested results showed a differential activity of the plant extracts against the mycelium growth. The combined leaf extracts of Lawsonia alba and Nicotiana tabocum in general showed a strong enhancement in activities over the individual leaf extracts of Lawsonia alba and Nicotiana tabocum against the mycelium growth. The leaf extracts of Nicotiana tabocum, Lantana macrophylae and Ocimum basilicum showed appreciable inhibitory effect against the tested fungi.

A research was carried out to evaluate Economic Threshold Level (ETL) in cultivation of Bt-cotton and non Bt-cotton by studying populations of Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) using synthetic pheromones and also their egg, larval (boll worms) populations and damage caused by this pest along with phenology of cotton (Gossypium hirsatum) crop and cultivation costs for growing. This was studied during 2013-14 and 2014-15 kharif season at Nalgonda district in Telangana State and it was found that growing Bt-cotton is profitable than Non Bt-cotton.

Effect of sub lethal concentration of pyrethroid pesticide Fenvalerate on Whole body, Ovary and Albumen gland of a freshwater snail, Bellamya bengalensis was evaluated. The biochemical analysis for 1th, 7th and 15th days exposed snail was made in the present work. The amount of biochemical components was greatly influenced by Fenvalerate in 15th days in all tissues in reproductive period than post reproductive and pre reproductive period. The ascorbic acid level decreased significantly in exposure to pesticide.

An experiment was conducted to study the performance of broilers on twelve diets containing different levels of single super phosphate (SSP) replacing dicalcium phosphate (DCP) with and without ionophor (maduramycin). Diets used were isonitrogenous containing 22% and 20% CP in starting and finishing broilers, respectively along with 2800 Kcal ME/kg. In diets 1 to 6, DCP was replaced by SSP at graded levels (0%, T ; 20%, T ; 1 2 40%, T ; 60%, T ; 80%, T and 100%, T ). In diets T to T DCP was replaced by SSP as in T to T but these diets were 3 4 5 6 7 12 1 6 supplemented with maduramycin as ionophore to see their effect on nutrient utilization. During 1st to 4th weeks, maximum body weight attained by the broilers allotted 40% SSP diet without ionophore was statistically comparable to those assigned 100% DCP as well as 60% SSP diets. The feed intake increased (P<0.05) in broilers assigned diets containing SSP up to 60% level without ionophore but further increase in SSP reduced it significantly. Best feed efficiency ratio (FER) was noted in broilers allotted 40% SSP diet. While, with ionophore, best FER noted in broilers allotted T diet was comparable with those allotted T and T diets. The Performance Index (PI) was maximum and 7 8 9 significantly (P<0.05) higher in broilers allotted T diet. During 5th to 6th weeks period, maximum weight gained by the 3 broilers assigned T3 diet was statistically similar to those allotted T and T diets. Overall, performance of broilers for 1 2 0-6th weeks, revealed that use of SSP up to 60% of DCP either improved the weight gain or had no significant influence on it. Addition of ionophore increased the weight gain only in broilers allotted control or 20% SSP diet. Maximum feed intake was observed in groups assigned 20% SSP diet. Use of ionophore increased the feed intake significantly in control as well as in those allotted 40% SSP diet. Best FER was observed in broilers allotted control diet without ionophore, but with ionophore use of 60% SSP instead of DCP was responsible for significantly higher FER. Maximum PI observed in broilers allotted control diet with and without ionophore was statistically similar to those allotted 40% SSP diet without ionophore. Hence it is concluded that use of 40% SSP instead of DCP in the mineral mixture of broilers is economical and it would be uneconomical to use ionophore under cage system of rearing of broilers.

Present paper deals with the study of Spermatogenesis of a new digenetic trematode Allocreadium ophiocephali, Srivastava,1960. The helminthes parasites were collected from the intestine of a fresh water fish Ophiocephalus punctatus of the family Allocreadiidae stossich, at the locality Dhirma Nala, Rewa (M.P.) in the month of October and November. A few of the parasites were flattened on a clean slide under the slight pressure of a cover glass and fixed in alcoholic Bouin's fluid for 12 hours. Stains like Gower's Carmine, Mayer's paracarmine and Haemalum were used for the preparation of whole mounts for identification and the study of testes and process of Spermatogenesis in this specie.

Oocyte growth and development are the results of serially related events. The main growth phase of female ovaries and oviducts takes place during the post mating period on the host. For fulfilling the increasing demand of human need establishment of many industries leads to make drastic changes in nature in various aspects. Their effluent shows diversified impacts on the whole population. Fluoride is the element which may occur naturally in water. Fluoride concentration of approximately 1.0 mg/l in drinking water effectively reduces harmful effects on human health but intake of high concentration of fluoride beyond the tolerance level is responsible for Fluorosis. On the basis of survey, maximum population of all villages are largely effected from Fluorosis. There are 39 villages in block Bighapur. The sources of drinking water of the villages are underground wells and hand pumps and are characterized by a higher content of Fluoride. The present investigation was based on Fluoride estimation by chemical analysis. For the present study the water samples were collected randomly (February,2012 to January,2013) from the villages and were analyzed. Fluoride concentration ranged from 1.5-6.8 mg/l, whereas the permissible limit for Fluoride concentration is only 1.5 mg/l.

Authors have studied morphological features of mature female insect Aspidiotus tamarindi Green, it belongs to family Diaspididae. It is an important pest of Annona squamosa Linn., Mimusops elengi Linn. and Tamarindus indica Linn. This pest almost attacks on the dorsal side of foliage leaves of the host trees but occasionally it is also found on the new twigs and fruits. In Aspidiotus tamarindi (Green) the body shape of adult female is somewhat circular and the pygidial part tapering posterior wards.

The present study was conducted to examine the variation in total protein and glucose profile of the urine during early pregnancy in buffaloes. Urine samples were obtained from 30 buffaloes (15 pregnant and 15 non pregnant) and assayed for total protein and glucose. Results indicated that total protein and glucose concentration of urine varied significantly between pregnant and non-pregnant group. Glucose and protein concentrations in pregnant group showed significantly difference from non-pregnant group from day 14 to 30 of estrous cycle.

In the present study histopathological studies have been conducted to establish fundamental relationship between contaminant exposure of paper mill effluent and various biological responses of fishes. The fishes Clarias batrachus were exposed to 1/5 of LC , 96 hour (9.5%) for 21th days to study the impacts on the histology of liver. 50 The physicochemical parameters of paper mill effluent were also analyzed. Many pathological changes were observed in the liver tissues such as vacuolated hepatocyte cells, irregular arrangement of parenchymatous cells, hyperpycnotic nuclei, congested central vain and condensed mass in central vein.

Laboratory experiments were conducted to test the antifeedant biopotency of Mantisalca duriaei (Spach) Briq. et Cavill. Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium (trev.) Vis.), Cichorium intybus (Chicory), Inula racemosa Hook. f, Reichardia tingitana Linn. Roth, Rhaponticum acaule (L.) DC. Scorzonera undulata Vahl. Spilanthes paniculata Well ex. DC Mantisalca duriaei (Spach) Briq. et Cavill. and Tagetes minuta L. in different concentrations (0.50%, 1.0% and 2.0%) against 3rd instar, 24 hrs starved larvae of Diamond Back Moth (DMB), Plutella xylostella Linn. The plant extract of Mantisalca duriaei gave the highest antifeedancy. It is evident that Mantisalca duriaei was most effective, which have maximum protectivity with least EC values i.e. 0.011 and placed on the top on the merit, 50 where as Chromolaena odorata, the least effective gave maximum EC values i.e. 0.416. On the basis of their respective 50 EC values, the protectivity responses of selected astereceous plant are summarized as under : Mantisalca duriaei 50 (0.011) > Reichardia tingitana (0.013) > Rhaponticum acaule (0.185) > Scorzonera undulata (0.295) > Inula racemosa (0.156) > Tagetes minuta (0.164) > Spilanthes paniculata (0.212) > Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium (0.288) > Cichorium intybus (0.392) > Chromolaena odorata (0.416), respectively.

The present communication, deals with the description, of a new species, of the same genus Indicovalipora singhi n.sp. from the intestine of dead Varanus, collected near Sangamner, Tq. Skin of the perineum is undermined and is reflected lateral to permit subsequent closure of the skin and sutured with simple interrupted suture of no. 2 silk.

The vermicompost produced using municipal solid waste is compared with the quality parameters specified by WHO. Out of eight parameters mentioned in the standards, six parameters are taken into consideration and they are compared with the samples. These six parameters are total carbon, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, moisture content, pH and C/N ratio. Of these six parameters the total carbon, total phosphorus, moisture and pH of the samples are in accordance with the WHO standards. Nitrogen content of all the samples is much lower than the nitrogen content of the standards. On the other hand, C/N ratio varies with the period of vermicposting and materials used for vermicomposting. Based on the quality parameters mentioned by WHO standards, vermicompost prepared out of only municipal solid waste is observed to be poor quality. The addition of cattle dung or soil or both to municipal solid waste in limited proportion will yield good quality vermicompost. Further, the study indicates that both the earthworm species, Eisenia feotida, Perionyx excavatus, are equally efficient in converting municipal solid waste into good quality vermicompost.

The present study was conducted to screen the dogs for diabetes mellitus by estimating blood glucose, urine glucose, glycated hemoglobin and serum fructosamine. Glycated hemoglobin and serum fructosamine indicated as valuable biomarkers tool for diagnosis of diabetes in dogs. A total of 626 dogs were screened. Overall prevalence reported for subclinical/clinical diabetes was 2.71% and 0.798%, respectively. Age wise prevalence of subclinical diabetes was higher in the age group of 5-8 years (76.47%). Clinical diabetes was higher in the age group of more than 8 yrs (60%). Highest prevalence of diabetes was recorded in Labrador, followed by GSD. Prevalence of diabetes, recorded in female dogs was higher than the male dogs.

Sensory analysis is concerned with measuring physical properties by psychological techniques. Sensory methods are used for measuring the properties that cannot be evaluate by physical and chemical tests. Samples of Puntius sarana from Dhaura reservoir and Nandus nandus and Channa marulius from Baigul reservoir were eviscerated to get mince with the help of meat bone separator. Collected mince was washed and stored at -20�C. Samples were analyzed fortnightly for sensory evaluation. A taste panel consisting of five judges carried out sensory evaluation of the raw and cooked meat samples. The quality characteristics assessed were whiteness and odour for raw and cooked meat samples and also texture for only cooked sample on the basis of the 5 point scale. The results of sensory evaluation of mince revealed continuous decrease in the score for the quality of colour, odour and texture with each passing month of storage for all the species.

The present study reports on the proximate composition of mince collected from small indigenous fishes collected from reservoirs of Uttaranchal. The results revealed that mince from low value fishes is also good source of animal protein and other important nutrients. Even though the mince has sustained some functional loss during the frozen storage; the average decrease in proximate composition at each slab of 15th days storage for 0-180th days of the total storage duration was not remarkable but was found marginal. The results for protein, moisture and fat content were found to decrease between 0-180th days in range of 22.00�0.26 to 4.18�0.14, 81.42�0.75 to 40.15�0.72 and 2.45� 0.98 to 0.67�0.087 respectively. The results represents, the proximate composition of different small indigenous fish more or equal to other large carp species, though the price is very lower than large species of fish. The findings of present study revealed that these small fishes are very good source of animal protein.

Bombyx mori has long been reared as a beneficial insect in the sericulture industry and as an experimental laboratory insect. In tropical countries like India, grasserie, (BmNPV) spreads by the occultation bodies (OBs) in the blood cell of infected silkworm, usually high temperature and humidity prevalent in tropical regions is conductive to proliferation of polyhedrosis disease. It is known to occur in all larval instars during all seasons causing 20-50% cocoon crop losses in India. In the present study, four promising bivoltine hybrids will be screened for their susceptibility to BmNPV and BmIFV, Muscardine and other diseases and the susceptibility status has been compared across monsoon season of Uttar Pradesh. This will help in selecting most promising race for Autumn season of which will be least susceptibility to different Silkworm diseases viz., Grasserie, Bacterial flacherie, Muscardine and % other diseases (DNV, CPV, IFV, Sotto disease) and farmer will face less difficulty during silkworm rearing and will have no fear of attack of diseases. It will lead to further adoption and spread of Sericulture in other districts of Uttar Pradesh.
